Reading Aloud: Strength in What Remains

Strength in What Remains (2009)
Written by Tracy Kidder

Once again, Tracy Kidder continues to prove himself a artful messenger. This go round, he writes about Deo, a Burundian who escaped the genocide that took place in Burundi and Rwanda during the mid 90s. He comes to America with barely enough to survive in New York. The kindness from complete strangers helps Deo complete his aspirations to finish his medical training. In the end, Deo learns what it means to be a Burundian American and seek answers to settle his troubled past.
