Life is a beach at Ocean House and Watch Hill Inn in Watch Hill, Rhode Island.
I’ve never spent time in Watch Hill—this may have to do with the fact that I grew up in Narragansett and attended university in Newport, two places in Rhode Island that are sought-out destinations themselves.
I stayed one night with family at the waterfront condo my cousin had rented at Watch Hill Inn, then we went to the Ocean House the following afternoon.
No matter how long or short your stay is, it’s easy to understand Watch Hill’s elegant allure—it can be found in quiet mornings walking by the harbor, relaxing afternoons basking on the beach and impregnable moments of solitude sipping a glass of chardonnay on the veranda, waiting for sundown.
About Ocean House, Watch Hill Inn, Weekapaug Inn
Ocean House, Watch Hill Inn, and nearby Weekapaug Inn are part of Ocean House Management. For travelers with distinguished taste, it’s worth noting that Ocean House and Weekapaug Inn are both Relais & Chateaux properties.
Guests staying at the Watch Hill Inn and Weekapaug Inn also have access to use amenities up the street at the Ocean House, including the private beach, the bocce court, and the spa. Although all guests of Ocean House Management properties are allowed to visit restaurants and share select amenities, the pool and beach properties are not shared (Example: Guests who booked their stay with Weekapaug Inn cannot use Ocean House’s beach and vice versa).

The crown jewel of Ocean House Management’s portfolio, Ocean House is best suited for travelers looking for a classic and luxurious, New England summer experience.
- For wine lovers and foodies—Ocean House has its own Center for Wine and Culinary Arts! In addition to offering complimentary tastings for guests, they can also customize experiences for couples, groups, corporate team-building activities, etc.
- The OH! Spa is the only Forbes Five-Star spa in Rhode Island, and among only 56 spas in the world to achieve the Five-Star rating.
- OH also hosts a number of interesting events and experiences throughout the year that are open to the public and hotel guests. Example: Veuve Clicquot Gondola Village experience
Weekapaug Inn
Weekapaug Inn has an approachable, casual, and comfortable vibe, yet also sports luxurious furnishings and amenities. The hotel focuses on enjoying nature and being outside with your loved ones. For those looking to vacation in Rhode Island—but find prices at Ocean House a bit of a stretch—Weekapaug Inn may be an appropriate alternative based on the activity level and vacation style.
- Weekapaug Inn has an outdoor pool on-premises and access to Weekapaug Beach (a 5-minute walk from the hotel)
- The Restaurant is proud of its “pond-to-table”, farm-fresh New England cuisine. For BBQ lovers, they have a custom smoker that they made for the property.
- There’s an exclusive partnership with Hunter in the form of the Hunter Boots Borrowing Closet, which is great if you find yourself unprepared for the nature activities in the area

Only steps away from Ocean House, Watch Hill Inn is another affordable option in the Ocean House Management portfolio. Watch Hill Inn guests can enjoy waterfront views of the marina and easily walk to shops and restaurants. The residence-style accommodations are perfect for guests looking for comfortable lodging without guidance.
