Life is a beach in Watch Hill, Rhode Island.
I’ve never spent time in Watch Hill growing up—this may have to do with the fact that I grew up in Narragansett and attended university in Newport, two places in Rhode Island that are sought-out destinations themselves.
I stayed one night with family at the waterfront condo my cousin had rented at Watch Hill Inn, then we went to the Ocean House the following afternoon. It wouldn’t be until many years later that I would explore Weekapaug Inn and fall in love with its natural beauty.
No matter how long or short your stay is, it’s easy to understand Watch Hill’s elegant allure—it can be found in quiet mornings walking by the harbor, relaxing afternoons basking on the beach, and impregnable moments of solitude sipping a glass of chardonnay on the veranda, waiting for sundown.

About Ocean House Management
Ocean House, Watch Hill Inn, and nearby Weekapaug Inn are part of Ocean House Management. For travelers with distinguished taste, it’s worth noting that Ocean House and Weekapaug Inn are both Relais & Chateaux properties.
Guests staying at the Watch Hill Inn and Weekapaug Inn also have access to use amenities up the street at the Ocean House, including the private beach, the bocce court, and the spa.
Although all guests of Ocean House Management properties are allowed to visit restaurants and share select amenities, the pool and beach properties are not shared (Example: Guests who booked their stay with Weekapaug Inn cannot use Ocean House’s beach and vice versa).
All staff at Ocean House Management properties want you to have a special experience, so be sure to work with the concierge to help suggest activities based on your preferences.
Here are a handful of my favorite takeaways from each property:
Ocean House
The crown jewel of Ocean House Management’s portfolio, Ocean House is best suited for travelers looking for a classic and luxurious, New England summer experience.
- The private beach at Ocean House is one of the most pristine in New England—soak in the sun and wave to Taylor Swift’s house on the bluff a few doors down!
- For wine lovers and foodies—Ocean House has its own Center for Wine and Culinary Arts! In addition to offering complimentary tastings for guests, they can also customize experiences for couples, groups, corporate team-building activities, etc.
- The OH! Spa is the only Forbes Five-Star spa in Rhode Island, and among only 56 spas in the world to achieve the Five-Star rating.
- OH also hosts a number of interesting events and experiences throughout the year that are open to the public and hotel guests, such as the Veuve Clicquot Gondola Village experience in the winter.
- Don’t feel like staying at a hotel? Guests can choose to rent a property from The Cottage Collection, a selection of private homes that are furnished with luxury amenities. Guests will also have a personal cottage concierge available to assist your needs throughout your stay.

Weekapaug Inn
Weekapaug Inn has an approachable, casual, and comfortable vibe, yet also sports luxurious furnishings and amenities. The hotel focuses on enjoying nature and being outside with your loved ones. For those looking to vacation in Rhode Island—but find prices at Ocean House a bit of a stretch—Weekapaug Inn may be an appropriate alternative based on the activity level and vacation style.
- Weekapaug Inn has an outdoor pool on-premises and access to Weekapaug Beach (a 5-minute walk from the hotel)
- The Restaurant is proud of its “pond-to-table”, farm-fresh New England cuisine. For BBQ lovers, they have a custom smoker that they made for the property.
- There’s an exclusive partnership with Hunter in the form of the Hunter Boots Borrowing Closet, which is great if you find yourself unprepared for the nature activities in the area

Watch Hill Inn
Only steps away from Ocean House and the heart of the village, Watch Hill Inn is another affordable option in the Ocean House Management portfolio. Watch Hill Inn guests can enjoy waterfront views of the marina and easily walk to shops and restaurants. The residence-style accommodations are perfect for guests looking for comfortable lodging without guidance.

FAQ
Are Ocean House, Weekapaug Inn, and Watch Hill Inn family-friendly?
Absolutely. Ocean House has the widest range of activities available for young children, but Weekapaug Inn delivers a more nature-forward experience to encourage their children to disconnect from their devices.
The Ocean House has a scavenger hunt with Mortimer the Mouse, movie screenings, culinary classes, and dedicated family-friendly events throughout the year.
At Weekapaug Inn, there are nature tours, activities led by young counselors at the Boathouse, and a property scavenger hunt for The Land of Paug that would be great for children up to 8 years old.
Guests at Watch Hill Inn have access to all activities, including family-friendly activities, at both Ocean House and the Weekapaug Inn.
Visiting any of these properties during the summer months is so expensive! Is it worth it to stay at Ocean House, Weekapaug Inn, or Watch Hill inn during the off-season?
It’s true that the prices of luxury hotels and resorts in New England can cost a pretty penny.
In July 2026, you can expect to pay $2,000+ per night, for a 2-night minimum stay at Ocean House or $1,100+ per night, for a 2-night minimum stay, at Weekapaug Inn.
To avoid paying the highest prices in July and August, I would recommend booking a vacation in Watch Hill, Weekapaug, or anywhere in southern Rhode Island after Labor Day weekend. The weather is usually very agreeable, and the tourist crowds have disappeared.
In September 2026, you can expect to pay $1,200+ per night, for a 2-night minimum stay, at Ocean House, or $600+ per night, for a 2-night minimum stay, at Weekapaug Inn.
If you would prefer to visit in the spring, Ocean House’s amenities are better suited for year-round stays.
In March 2026, you can expect to pay $700+ per night at Ocean House or $500+ per night at Weekapaug Inn.
*Please note that these room rates were researched in February 2026 directly on each hotel’s website; prices are likely to fluctuate
Do Ocean House, Weekapaug Inn, or Watch Hill Inn temporarily close for the winter?
Expect the properties to close for a month between early January to mid-March. Check the hotel websites for specific dates as they change year to year.
I’m trying to book a weekend getaway this summer, and it looks like the weekends are already booked. Is that really possible?
Yes, certain weekends in the summer may already be sold out for weddings and events. There are also a number of hotel guests who stay at Ocean House Management properties every summer, so it’s possible that top clients reserve their weekends well in advance.
I’m traveling from New York City to Watch Hill, but I do not own a car. Do I need a car to travel to Ocean House, Weekapaug Inn, or Watch Hill Inn?
While it’s highly recommended to have a car while traveling to Rhode Island, there is a chance that you could get away without one, especially if you only plan on staying on property and are comfortable using rideshare apps.
For luxury and business travelers, Ocean House has a partnership with Wings Air out of Westerly airport to provide transport within the Northeast.
For those who would prefer a more affordable option, book an Amtrak train from Penn Station to Westerly, RI, then order a rideshare or request a ride from the concierge to Watch Hill.
Ocean House also has a partnership with BMW to provide guests with the option to rent a car for a few hours during their stay or provide transport to the Westerly Train Station.
What local restaurants are worth trying while staying in Watch Hill?
For over 100 years, Olympia Tea Room has been a long-standing institution in Watch Hill. The restaurant does not take reservations and closes during the winter in late October.
Where else can I explore beyond Watch Hill? Are there any other attractions to check out nearby, within 30 minutes of Watch Hill?
Located less than 30 minutes away, Mystic, CT has family-friendly attractions and a great restaurant scene.
The Mystic Aquarium is one of the top aquariums in the Northeast region, and the newly-renovated Mystic Seaport Museum showcases the town’s history of maritime trade through the years—both museums have great programming for children during your visits.
For the ultimate foodie experience, you cannot miss Shipwright’s Daughter, which is led by James Beard award-winning chef Jason Standridge.
La Plage at Delamar Mystic and Mix Rooftop above the beloved Sift Bake Shop are also great choices for both lunch and dinner.
For a casual setting with a waterfront view, head to Haring’s in Noank and watch the fishermen’s boats go by while enjoying fresh-caught fish and chips.
