CHRISTIAN DIOR, COUTURIER DU RÊVE is an absolute dream for the fashion crowd.
If you witnessed the monochromatic form of the Balenciaga exhibit at Musee Bourdelle, the Dior exhibit is completely different with its colorful, visual decadence. It appropriately opened during Haute Couture Week in Paris, France early July 2017.
“Christian Dior, Designer of Dreams” celebrates the House of Dior’s 70-year-old history.
According to Vogue, the exhibit is the largest Dior retrospective and spans over 32,000 feet at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs. Not only does it highlight Christian Dior himself, but it also presents designs by his successors—Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferré, John Galliano, Raf Simons, and Maria Grazia Chiuri, the brand’s current creative director.
The exhibit is curated into several different parts. The beginning of the exhibit focuses more on Christian Dior’s beginnings, then it gradually progresses to focus on the development of his aesthetic, his designs, his legacy, and finally, all of the dresses.
It would be easy to spoil the whole exhibit by posting all of my pictures, but here are some of my favorites that capture the spirit of the Dior exhibit:

Tips for Planning Your Visit
- Buy your tickets online to beat the queue. There’s an option to also buy entry to the Musee Nissim de Camondo, which is open Wed-Sun from 10:00 am-5:30 pm. Check out the museum’s website for complete hours and information on ticket prices.
- If you can’t purchase your tickets online, go early. I arrived at the museum before it opened at 11:00 am and there was already a line spread halfway down the block—it was probably a 45-minute wait.
- Turn your camera flash off. Unlike museums in New York City, museum attendants at Musée des Arts Décoratifs do not constantly police visitors to shut off the camera flash. The reason why it matters is that flash can damage the clothing and other items on display.

Update April 21, 2020: Due to COVID-19, the public may now pay a virtual visit to Christian Dior, Couturier du Rêve on YouTube:
I can only imagine how fantastic it is to see such finely made gowns up close to be able to appreciate the small details!

From cultural/historic point of view, haute couture is deeply embedded in Paris, France’s history. It’s one of the nation’s most extravagant exports
